Regal Hotels unveils MetaGreen in The Sandbox

Regal Hotels Group has tapped into the metaverse with a virtual land acquired at Mega City 2 of The Sandbox, a decentralised gaming virtual world and subsidiary of Animoca Brands.

Regal Hotels is the first eco-friendly hotel built in MetaGreen, the first green metropolis in The Sandbox. The first phase of the development will be officially launched on 12 January. Partners such as Hang Seng Bank, UOB Hong Kong, City Super Group and The Mills will join hands to foster a diversified green ecosystem and nurture a sustainable circular economy to contribute to the community and the environment.

The first phase of MetaGreen includes an array of eco-friendly facilities, including a green hotel, a shopping mall, an art park and a green open space for performance. Players can experience different green-themed games which intend to arouse public concern in living a green lifestyle. 

The hotel enjoys 360 degrees of magnificent green metropolis scenery equipped with a presidential suite, various luxurious suites, bars, alfresco dining restaurants and a wellness zone. Being the first green hotelRegal Hotels uses wind turbines to generate energy for the cooling system. Moreover, players can interact with different non-player characters (NPCs) to gain various green tips such as farm-to-table, sustainable wellness and energy saving.

Meanwhile, at The Mills’ space, visitors can learn about techstyle innovations that help minimise garment waste, reduce production pollution, and encourage a circular economy.Moreover, the Hang Seng Bank metaverse branch is launched to create an engaging platform to connect the community with knowledge about ESG investments in a captivating way. Furthermore, UOB Hong Kong and UOB Art Academy present an art space in MetaGreen’s art park to showcase the winning artworks of the UOB Art in Ink Awards. Players are invited to help NPCs to find a missing artwork.

With the core value of “crafting a better lifestyle”, City Super Group has also joined forces with Regal Hotels Group to create all-new, innovative eco-friendly experiences in MetaGreen. Players can embark on a virtual journey with brand mascots Chef Polar and MANUAL FACTORY Bear, first completing an eco mission at LOG-ON to acquire a shopping bag, and then beating the mini challenge at city’super. The interactive games are filled with tips and tricks on reducing plastic waste, sustainable sourcing and waste management. Players are invited to learn more about responsible shopping, such as purchasing cage-free or free-range eggs and saving endangered species, such as Japanese eel and wild bluefin tuna, which can deliver positive environmental messages through gameplay.

MetaGreen is the first green metropolis in The Sandbox and comprises six uniquely interactive districts. The MetaGreen initiative from Regal Hotels Group is a first pillar that will set an example for additional environmentally-focused projects in the metaverse, to be followed by other large brands and companies worldwide. In the coming months, we hope to encourage more ESG-related development to boost the long term environmental sustainability of The Sandbox,” saidSebastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox.

To let visitors feel the power of the green metropolis and meet those like-minded green lifestyle lovers, an experiential zone is set up in The Mills during weekends in January. Furthermore, Regal Hotels will run a “MetaGreen Green Hotel Design Contest from 5 to 16 January for green life lovers to curate their ideal green hotel. The awarded masterpiece will have the chance to be displayed at the MetaGreen MICE zone.
