Pizza Hut MY puts twist to Burger King initiative, asks fans to order for somebody

In support of the food industry, Burger King and Subway recently urged consumers to support other food outlets as well as mamak joints. Pizza Hut Malaysia has also jumped on this initiative but in true Pizza Hut fashion, the brand put a twist to it. In a social media post done in collaboration with Fishermen Integrated, Pizza Hut encouraged consumers to order for someone.

"This ad is trying to sell you something. Surprise surprise. But it's not exactly what you think. We're trying to sell you kindness. Though if we're being honest, it sells itself," the company said. Pizza Hut added that times have been tough everywhere so yes, it is important to buy from everyone, be it big chains to the gerai on the corner with a staff of one.

"But more importantly, we think, is that you buy for somebody. Generosity goes a long way. So give someone a treat. Share a meal, deliver a meal, donate a meal," the brand said. It added that it really does not matter who makes the meal, as long as it comes from the heart.

Separately, Burger King Indonesia also followed in the footsteps of its counterparts in France the UK by encouraging Indonesians to order from Flip Burger, Carl's Jr, KFC, Sate Khas Senayan, HokBen or any independent dining outlets.

"It never occurred to us to ask you to do this, but any restaurant that has thousands of employees needs your help right now. If you want to help out, treat yourself to delicious food via delivery, takeaway, or drive-thru," it said in an Instagram post.

Meanwhile, Subway also recently took a page out of Burger King's playbook by urging consumers to order from anywhere, be it through restaurants, mamak joints or home grown businesses. The post was done in collaboration with VaynerMedia Asia Pacific and Subway's marketing director - Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Macau, Hang Ee Laine told A+M previously that the company thought it is a good touch to encourage consumers to support everyone and not just quick service restaurants. "We need to help one another especially the local and small businesses," she added.
