Local digital insurer OneDegree has appointed Michelle Ip (pictured) as the new CEO for its tech arm, OneDegree Global, effective from 1 January 2024.
The appointment follows OneDegree’s successful Series B funding round completed in 2023, according to the release. In her new role, Ip is tasked at overseeing the modern insurance core solutions of IXT, an insurtech company that operates as a subsidiary of OneDegree, as well as the cybersecurity services provided by Cymetrics.
Ip joined OneDegree in 2022 as its chief commercial officer, helping IXT expand its footprint to South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia. With over a decade of experience in insurance and insurtech start-ups, Ip is experienced in overseeing greenfield market entry, business development and operations across various countries in ASEAN such as Myanmar and East Asia.
Before joining OneDegree, Ip served as the director of group partnership at insurtech company bolttech. She also worked at Manulife for more than three years, where she helped the company set up the first insurance company in Cambodia in 2012. Additionally, Ip was a founding member of iFWD at FWD Hong Kong. Ip founded her own fintech start-up in 2018 called Sugar AI, which was later integrated into bolttech.
Meanwhile, OneDegree has appointed Robin Scott as general manager of OneDegree Middle East, the newly established division facilitating the group’s strategic expansion into the Middle East market.
Ip and Scott will join the other senior leaders in leveraging technology to transform insurance, with a global focus.
Alex Leung, co-founder of OneDegree Group, said: “Ip's dedication, strategic approach and unwavering commitment to our mission have been pivotal. Her deep understanding of our technology business and culture uniquely positions her to lead us into a future of success.”
“As we take on ambitious 2024 targets, we're not just aiming to meet them – we're gearing up to surpass them under Ip's leadership,” Leung added.

Don't miss: OneDegree empowers working mums to seize the moment with families with new campaign
Back in November last year, OneDegree partnered with local creative agency Giraffe Hong Kong to roll out a micro movie upon the launch of its new home insurance plan, encouraging working mums to seize the moments with their children.
Available until December, the month-long campaign kicked off with a heartwarming micro movie centred around working moms. Under the series Cherish and Love with Time (用心守護,用時間愛), the video ad captured a working mum finding difficulties in balancing her work and spending quality time with her son. In the meantime, she was troubled by the breakdown of quite a number of home appliances.
