Campbell Cannon has been promoted to global client partner at Ogilvy. In a statement to Marketing, Ogilvy’s spokesperson said Cannon will continue to be based in Malaysia as the network has regional staff located in a variety of markets across Asia. Cannon will report to co-CEOs in Asia Kent Wertime and Chris Reitermann.
In his new role, the spokesperson said Cannon will work on a to-be-finalised portfolio of international clients. He will also function as a key client partner leader in Asia and is an important part of the regional team.
“We are doing this to leverage his considerable Ogilvy network and international client experience across three continents. We see this as a key part of our growth strategy as our Asia top 50 clients are a considerable part of our focus,” the spokesperson added.
Cannon has been with the network for about 14 years and has worked in Malaysia, New York and Australia. He was most recently the co-chief executive officer of Ogilvy Malaysia, together with Nizwani Shahar. In February, the agency named Nizwani sole chief executive of its Malaysia operations.
Both Cannon and Nizwani were appointed to co-CEO roles in April 2019 when Ogilvy and J. Walter Thompson returned to independent operations in Malaysia, nine months after the agencies combined resources under a single leadership team. The split followed the merger of JWT and Wunderman to form Wunderman Thompson in 2018.
Before assuming the co-chief executive role, Cannon was managing partner at Ogilvy Malaysia for more than five years, and prior to that, regional business director for more than six years, according to his LinkedIn. During his time as Ogilvy Malaysia’s regional business director, he oversaw the Cadbury Southeast Asia account and was responsible for ongoing strategic oversight on all integrated campaign delivery. Cannon first joined the network in 2006 as senior account manager, according to his LinkedIn, and rose through the ranks to helm roles including account director.
