Octopus Hong Kong has renewed its partnership with OMD Hong Kong to handle its media business, MARKETING-INTERACTIVE understands. 

Following a competitive pitch in April this year, it is understood that OMD Hong Kong was chosen for its data and technology capabilities to aid in OCL's transformation. 

OMD HK will oversee Octopus' media duties for Hong Kong, and the work is expected to roll out in June 2024.

Back in March, Octopus Cards unveiled the pilot programme “Octopus – China T-Union card” (全國通卡), allowing Hongkongers to use the Octopus card on public transport in more than 336 cities across the country covered by China T-Union transport network.

Customers will be able to join this pilot programme by purchasing the card and using it to pay for transport fares anywhere in the Mainland with the China T-Union logos, excluding retail payments. Octopus – China T-Union Cards will be made available at all Circle K stores and designated MTR Customer Service Centres from 26 March.

Back in October 2023, Octopus Hong Kong leveraged the influence of virtual YouTubers (VTubers) in its new prepaid card campaign to appeal to the younger audience.

Developed by DDB Group Hong Kong, the campaign promoted the ability to use the card for any online purchases, connecting with target consumers in the digital world they are accustomed to, yet can have a hard time spending in. 

Also known as Octopus Mastercard, the prepaid card is a reloadable virtual prepaid card that can be downloaded via the Octopus App and easily added to Apple Pay or Google Pay.
