New World First Bus (NWFB) will be offering free bus services on the designated Route 25 this Sunday upon the end of the NWFB franchise, to express its gratitude to its customers for their support over the past 25 years.
This comes as Bravo Transport, owner of the NWFB franchise and Citybus, Bravo Transport announced the merger of Citybus and NWFB franchise into the newly created Citybus (franchise for the urban and new territories Network) effective from 1 July 2023. The renewal of the Citybus which serves Airport and North Lantau bus network, will be effective from 1 May 2023. Both franchises will last for a period of 10 years.
During the "Free Ride Day", four buses with classic "wave" livery will gather and run on Route 25, providing customers a chance to reminisce about their fond memories with NWFB. All customers are welcome to enjoy the free bus services, including the elderly and eligible persons with disabilities who enjoy the $2 scheme. The route number, 25, coincides with the 25 years of history of NWFB serving Hong Kong.
Route 25 is a circular route from Central to Braemar Hill, passing through NWFB's major service areas in Hong Kong Island including Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, which is suitable for the travel needs of citizens on holidays. The free ride day encourages citizens to travel on holidays, gathering together to review the moments that NWFB has brought to Hong Kong. According to the release, NWFB will closely monitor the changes in patronage and dispatch fleets promptly, increasing frequency according to customer demand.
Apart from the "NWFB Thankful Festival" since 21 April, the company will continue to hold "flash events" in the following month, with its teams appearing on selected bus routes and terminus that represent NWFB the most, to distribute thankful gifts of limited edition bus keychains to customers.
Newton Ng, commercial director of Citybus and NWFB, said: "Free Ride Day is the climax of our farewell NWFB series event, which is the most straightforward way to thank our customers. We understand that the city has countless memories of the NWFB brand, therefore we arrange all buses with the classic 'wave' livery to run on Route 25 during the Free Ride Day, allowing customers to have a close-up view of their magnificence."
"Although the NWFB franchise is coming to an end, our determination to provide high-quality, efficient and professional bus services will be even stronger, as we promise to serve the city by 'One Citybus’," Ng added.
