Courier and logistic provider Ninja Van Singapore has picked Justina Sim as its new country head.

Sim joined Ninja Van Group in 2018 as the head of regional financial planning and analysis (FP&A). During her first year, she played a key role in Ninja Van Group’s Series D fundraising efforts, working closely with the chief executive officer (CEO) and chief financial officer (CFO) to support the process.

Sim’s work centred on improving the consistency of financial reporting and establishing a single source of truth for the organisation, it said.

Prior to her role at Ninja Van Group, Sim was a competition analyst at the Competition Commission of Singapore for just under two years before being promoted to assistant director in 2015.

Sim transformed Ninja Van's FP&A department from a traditional advisory role into a proactive partner, working closely with operations to drive initiatives that enhanced efficiency and profitability, allowing her to make informed decisions, Ninja Van said.

Her work with the operations team provided Sim insights into Ninja Van’s operational set-up across the region, helping her understand how different initiatives impact the parcel journey, cost structures, and overall performance.

Sim also played a key role in projects such as investments in automation and trucks, assessing the financial outcomes and ensuring the company met its savings targets. When expectations fell short, she worked with the team to identify gaps and recommend adjustments to ensure optimal financial performance.

Her efforts also extended to sustainability, where she led initiatives to evaluate Scope one and two greenhouse gas emissions. Sim believes logistics can play a vital role in promoting eco-friendly practices and will continue to drive initiatives that reduce Ninja Van’s carbon footprint, it said in a statement.

"Sim's deep understanding of the operational side of our business, from cost management to process optimisation, perfectly positions her to lead Singapore. Her ability to navigate both financial and operational challenges will help us scale new ventures such as Ninja B2B and Ninja Cold while continuing to strengthen our core services," said Lai Chang Wen, CEO of Ninja Van Group.

"Sim's background in FP&A equips her with a solid grasp of the financial and operational dynamics that drive our business. Her ability to connect these two worlds is critical to her success as Ninja Van Singapore’s country head, ensuring that we balance cost efficiency with operational excellence," said Ritchie Wong, CFO of Ninja Van Group.

“Consistent reporting and a unified source of truth are crucial. By consolidating data and standardising report templates, we were able to provide timely insights to support management’s decision-making,” Sim shared as she reflected on her past experiences.

“Leading Singapore, where Ninja Van began, is a true honour. The company has come a long way in the past 10 years. I’m excited to steer Ninja Van Singapore’s growth to the next level,” she added.

Earlier this year, Ninja Van laid off 5% of its workforce in Singapore as it assessed its alignment with future needs

In a statement to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, a Ninja Van spokesperson explained that earlier this year, it announced its expansion into other logistics verticals of B2B restock and cold chain, made possible with its existing eCommerce infrastructure and tech-enabled logistics solutions.
