A new airline, Ascend Airways Malaysia, is set to take off from Malaysia at the end of 2025. The airline will be a sister company to UK-based Ascend Airways, which is owned by Dublin-based ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) provider Avia Solutions Group (ASG).

On Ascend Airways Malaysia’s official website, the airline said it is currently in the process of applying for an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), and flight operations will commence once it obtains an Air Service Permit (ASP) from the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM).

It also noted that as part of the Avia Solutions Group family, it is committed to enhancing Malaysia’s aviation landscape by serving airlines, tour operators, charter brokers, government departments, and NGOs with reliable passenger and cargo ACMI services.

“As well as supporting local airlines and businesses, Ascend Airways Malaysia will move capacity seasonally between Malaysia and its sister carrier in the UK to meet counter seasonal demand. This will enable Ascend Airways Malaysia to maintain year-round utilisation of its aircraft and crew.”

In a report by the New Straits Times, Ascend’s ASP is valid from 14 November 2024, to 15 November 2025. An ASP is required for air transport providers which provide unscheduled air services. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) had also confirmed with NST, that the airline is in the process of applying for its AOC.

Upon receiving the air operator certificate, Ascend Airways would have to apply for a full ASP from MAVCOM before commencing operations.

According to aviation industry news site CH Aviation, the new airlines is planning to deploy its VIP premium-cabin-only B737-300 into the Southeast Asian charter market, supporting KlasJet’s and Ascend’s charter operations in SEA for at least six months.

Ascend Airways will be focusing on providing ACMI services as a B2B business solutions provider. It will be complementing and supporting airlines with their seasonal capacity needs. The airways has said, that it will not sell flights or tickets directly to passengers, but will instead provide ACMI solutions to airlines and operate their flight schedules on their behalf during peak seasons to capture extra demand and maximise revenues.
