MR D.I.Y. Indonesia marks a major milestone with its 1,000th store, strengthening its push for household retail dominance. The store, located in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, exemplifies the company's commitment to providing quality products at affordable prices across Indonesia.

This expansion is expected to not only enhance retail accessibility for customers but also contribute to local economies by creating employment opportunities. Notably, over 50% of the company's employees are recruited from regions outside Java, MR D.I.Y. Indonesia said in a release.

In addition to employment, MR D.I.Y. Indonesia - which has over 18,000 products across 10 categories - aims to actively support local suppliers and small and medium-sized enterprises. Their collaboration has enabled some Indonesian-made products to reach international markets through MR D.I.Y.'s global network.

To commemorate this achievement, MR D.I.Y. Indonesia has launched the "MR D.I.Y. untuk Indonesia" programme, focusing on three main pillars: empowering local businesses and SMEs through training and business facilitation; supporting women and children via educational and skill development initiatives; and promoting environmental sustainability through waste reduction and recycling campaigns.

As an initial step, the company hosted the MR D.I.Y. Run to engage customers, employees, and business partners, with all proceeds from ticket sales being donated to educational and environmental programmes, in collaboration with the Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa.

"The milestone of 1,000 stores is more than just a number - it reflects our continuous growth alongside the community. The company is committed to ensuring that every Indonesian family, whether in major cities or rural areas, has access to affordable, comprehensive, and conveniently available products," said Edwin Cheah, president director of MR D.I.Y. Indonesia.

MR D.I.Y. Group, the parent company based in Malaysia, operates thousands of stores across Asia and Europe, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, India, Turkey, Spain, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, and Vietnam.

In the fourth quarter ending 31 December 2024, the group's net profit slipped to RM147.20 million (US$33 million) from RM158.63 million (US$35.6 million) a year earlier. However, revenue saw a slight uptick to RM1.18 billion (US$264 million) from RM1.15 billion (US$258 million), fuelled by contributions from newly opened stores.
