The Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) has released a five-part documentary web-series that aims to chronicle the 18-month long Forward SG exercise.

Titled "Let’s Begin: The Forward SG Story", the series takes viewers on-ground and behind the scenes with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Lawrence Wong and members of the Cabinet who form part of the fourth generation (4G) leadership team.

In the series, viewers will see how DPM Lawrence Wong, and his team embarked on a year-long exercise to engage a wide range of stakeholders and Singaporeans to refresh the social compact and chart a new vision for the future of the country.

The FSG exercise engaged more than 200,000 Singaporeans to discuss important issues that will impact Singapore’s next bound of nation building. These includes topics such as housing, the Singapore identity, economy and jobs, success, ageing, and the environment.

The documentary production team was given access to over 80 FSG engagement sessions, internal staff meetings and events involving political office holders, key policy makers and Singaporeans from all walks of life who took part in the FSG exercise.

Through walk-and-talk and in-car interviews, DPM and the 4G team shared their honest thoughts about the entire exercise and its importance to Singapore.

They also spoke freely about their interactions and personal anecdotes with various Singaporeans and discussed trade-offs and hard decisions that were made during the policy development process.

The documentary also featured six Singaporean profiles who spoke about their concerns, hopes and dreams for the Singapore of tomorrow, according to MCI in a statement.

“This has been an immensely rewarding and illuminating project, because it not only revealed the motivations and commitment of the country’s 4G leaders to make our society strong and inclusive, but also the concerns and hopes of Singaporeans, which is inspiring,” said Chloe Lim, account director at DSTNCT, which is the appointed creative agency for the project.
