Milieu Insight nabs former YouGov COO as new CEO

Market research and data analytics platform company, Milieu Insight, has named Sundip Chahal (pictured left) as its new CEO. 

Drawing on his extensive network and experience, Chahal will continue to strengthen Milieu Insight's position in Southeast Asia while spearheading the company's growth into new global markets such as the US and the UK. 

Chahal joins Milieu Insight after an 18-year tenure at research company YouGov where he rose from the position of brand index sales director in November 2005 to become its group chief operating officer from 2014 to 2024.

As group chief operating office, Chahal oversaw the company's growth. 

According to his LinkedIn, Chahal began his career as a research executive at Ipsos before becoming its global product champion two years later. 

"The opportunity to lead Milieu Insight at this juncture is thrilling and humbling. We're not just looking to grow; we're going to change how businesses understand and connect with consumers globally. Southeast Asia has been a key driver of Milieu Insight's success, and I look forward to furthering that momentum as we push into new markets," said Chahal (pictured) on his new role. 

"My focus is on enabling the vision already in place. We're taking what's been
articulated locally and expanding it globally. The potential here is enormous, and I'm excited to help realise it," he added. 

Gerald Ang (pictured right), the founder of Milieu Insight, sees Chahal's appointment as a fantastic opportunity to accelerate the company's global ambitions, freeing him to focus on innovation and business strategy, alongside the new CEO.

"With Chahal on board, we're entering a new phase of growth. Southeast Asia is an important and exciting region for us, and we look forward to strengthening our partnerships here with his invaluable experience and network," said Ang. 

"We've built a great team and a powerful platform. Now, with Chahal’s leadership, we
can scale up rapidly while maintaining our commitment to innovation," added Ang. 

In 2021, Milieu Insight secured US$5 million in its latest round of funding, led by MassMutual Ventures Southeast Asia. The funds will be used to bolster product innovation and accelerate the development of new SaaS-oriented consumer insight offerings. Milieu said in a statement that the funding comes on the back of its strong growth in 2021 so far. 

OSK Ventures International and Genesis Alternative Ventures also participated in the funding, along with several private investors.

Funds from this round will also be used to expand Milieu's reach beyond Southeast Asia. Since its previous round of funding in October 2019, the firm has expanded its commercial operations to six markets - Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
