Johan Ishak has left his role as CEO of Media Prima Television Networks (MPTN), A+M understands, close to three years after he assumed the role in October 2017. In an internal memo seen by A+M, group managing director Iskandar Mizal Mahmood will be taking on additional duties by leading MPTN. Media Prima's spokesperson confirmed the news to A+M.

During his time as CEO, Johan (pictured) was responsible for the overall operations of MPTN, overseeing Media Prima's TV3, ntv7, 8TV, TV9, tonton and CJ Wow Shop. He also pursued new business opportunities in line with Media Prima’s long-term growth strategies. Before MPTN, Johan was the CEO of MyCreative Ventures since 2012, a government investment arm for the promotion and entrepreneurship of the Malaysian creative industry.

During his tenure at MyCreative Ventures, Johan also became a founding member of industry think-tank Cultural Economy Development Agency. He was formerly general manager of Media Prima's group finance department from 2009 to 2012. A+M has reached out to Media Prima for comment.

Separately, Kamal Khalid ended his tenure as group managing director in March this year, having served the group in multiple capacities since 2009. The roles included CEO, Media Prima Television Networks; COO, group shared services; COO, business development; and international and head of content distribution. Media Prima said previously that he played a pivotal role in completing the first phase of the group’s business transformation efforts, Odyssey, which focused on revenue diversification across three key areas — digital, commerce, and going beyond Malaysia.
