British luxury shoemaker Manolo Blahnik has finally opened its first store in China, following a long-standing trademark battle for the right to use its name in the country.
According to a video teaser on Instagram, the new boutique store is located at Plaza 66 luxury mall, Shanghai, featuring the latest products and collections from the brand.
The store, designed by CEO Kristina Blahnik, elegantly merges British sophistication with Shanghai’s unique cultural flair. The store’s design draws inspiration from the concept that initially used in the Manolo Blahnik boutique in Burlington Arcade in London.
As a special addition for the new Shanghai store, the brand has crafted two exclusive styles. The boutique also features seasonal collections for both men and women, alongside the iconic Manolo’s Silhouettes collection.
In fact, the brand's expansion in China was delayed following a long-standing trademark battle started by a local businessman, who appeared to have registered the name "Manolo Blahnik" in 1999.
Under China’s “first to file” trademark rules, companies do not need to prove prior use to secure a trademark. However, a landmark decision by the Supreme People’s Court of China two years ago finally ruled in favour of Manolo Blahnik.

Established in 1970, Manolo Blahnik's first boutique was acquired in Chelsea, London. Now a globally recognised brand, its headquarters remain in London with offices and partners around the world. The brand is also known for the celebrity endorsement and its iconic appearance in famous shows such as Sex and the City.
A privately owned and family run company, Manolo Blahnik still heads the brand as creative director and chairman. He worked with his sister Evangelina Blahnik as managing director from 1981 until his niece Kristina Hulsebus Blahnik took over as CEO in 2013.
