Malaysians have a higher interest in the 2024 Paris Games than the average of 33 countries. Currently, 64% of Malaysians have expressed enthusiasm for the Olympics, while the global country average is at 57%.

This is according to a recent study by Ipsos where it surveyed 24,531 online adults across 33 countries. Of which, Malaysians made up over 500 over the respondents.

The study found that Asian countries, especially China and the Southeast Asia regions have shown very high interest in the games. Interestingly, interest in France (46%) and past host country Japan (40%) showed lower excitement.

In addition, the study found that 73% of Malaysians agree that the 2024 Paris Games should go ahead regardless of the world's economy and conflicts.

This is especially since eight out of 10 Malaysians view the Olympics as having a positive and unifying effect on the world and the country.

In fact, 88% of Malaysians viewed the Paris Games as an inspiration for sports while another 88% expressed that the national team makes them proud of their country.

Out of all the sports events, badminton is the most anticipated among Malaysians (58%), surpassing the global average and many other countries.

Football comes in second with 35%, followed by athletics (25%), aquatics (18%) and cycling (17%).

The 2024 Paris Games is scheduled to be held from 26 July to 1 August and will be the first games after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past few months, Malaysians have been actively vocal in their support for the games and the Malaysian contingent.

In June, Malaysian sports fans on social media expressed displeasure with the design of the contingent's Olympic attire, outfitted by Yonex Sunrise Malaysia.

The attire featured tiger stripe designs and gold accents. Among the outfits were tracksuits, polo shirts and T-shirts.

Netizens had claimed it to be "backward and uninspiring" compared to previous official attire of the national contingent.

Following the event, sports minister Hannah Yeoh said that there is another set of official attire for the event and that she respects the Olympic Council of Malaysia and their sponsorship contract with Yonex.
