Singapore's Land Transport Authority has partnered with the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC), Tower Transit Singapore, SMRT and SBS Transit to give local trains and buses a makeover in celebration of Chinese New Year (CNY).
The collaboration is the first time that LTA has partnered with the SCCC and the initiative will run till 24 February.
As part of the makeover, selected trains and buses will be decorated with key elements of the Lunar New Year such as zodiac motifs, festive food items and interesting pieces of information on the auspicious customs and common practices of CNY.

The trains that will be decorated include those at Ang Mo Kio, Boon Lay, Punggol, Tampines, Maxwell and Shenton Way Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations. The buses involved are those along service lines 51, 851, 106, 166 and 961.
LTA added in a social media statement that there will be a different design on every rail line and that there will also be festive murals at select trains stations.
According to LTA, there will also be daily CNY tunes played at all SMRT MRT stations during peak hours.
The music will be played by Hear65, a national movement by the National Arts Council which celebrates and promotes all forms of Singaporean music.
It will be playing its “I Play SG Music” CNY 2024 playlist. This will include music from SCCC and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.
The decorated trains come shortly after the National Arts Council (NAC) and LTA partnered to decorate seven train stations along the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line.
With the partnership, commuters on the North East Line were greeted by a themed train decked out with selected art works from Singapore Art Week 2024 (SAW).
Envisioned as an art trail, the initiative aimed to give the public a head-start in viewing the artworks that will be showcased throughout SAW, which will be taking place from 19 to 28 January 2024, according to a statement by NAC.
