L'Oréal has appointed Lau Sook Ping to the role of chief digital and marketing officer, Malaysia and Singapore. L'Oréal's spokesperson told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that Lau (pictured) leads the digital acceleration for the organisation by building the roadmap, establishing strong transversal partnerships, as well as transforming the three key pillars of digital, media and data insights.

Known for her strong people leadership and coaching skills, Lau is also focusing on advancing internal capabilities and talent pipeline. She has been with the group for over seven years and was previously transformation director, Malaysia and Singapore. She joined the team in 2014 as GM, luxury products division before moving on to helm the role of GM, consumer products division.

Lau has more than 11 years of FMCG and beauty experience prior to joining L’Oréal. She was GM, Malaysia and Singapore at Henkel for a year where she assumed full P&L responsibility for the Schwarzkopf Professional hair cosmetics business, her LinkedIn said. She was also tasked to strengthen and accelerate the market share growth, and increase the return on sales to contribute to the total beauty care business in Asia Pacific.

Prior to that, she was with P&G for eight years, taking on roles such as country manager, Malaysia and Singapore (prestige beauty); regional brand manager, personal care; and regional assistant brand manager, fabric and home care.

Separately, L'Oréal combined its Malaysia and Singapore operations on 1 July to form a bigger organisation. Its spokesperson previously told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that the combination will enable the company to "prepare for the future and best position [it] to tap new opportunities" emerging from the shifts in the rapidly transforming beauty landscape.

Tomas Hruska was named GM to lead both markets and oversee the transformation efforts immediately. His appointment followed the exit of Malek Bekdache who left his role as MD of Malaysia after six years. Shortly after, the brand named Hoa Tran as its marketing director for Malaysia and Singapore. She is currently based in Malaysia and has been with L'Oréal for nearly four years.
