LinkedIn study: Top 15 startups in Indonesia and their marketers

LinkedIn has unveiled the list of top startups in Indonesia which have continued to attract investment, employees and attention in 2021 - a first for Indonesia. According to LinkedIn, professionals and businesses across Indonesia have been pushed to reevaluate their personal and business plans over the past year and a half, in the wake of the pandemic.
While the crisis has undoubtedly unleashed upheaval on businesses, some have found ways to stay resilient and thrive. Startups can also be great places for employees to gain experience, grow their career and build important skills, according to LinkedIn. The LinkedIn Top Startups list is created using proprietary LinkedIn data - ranging from employment growth, to company engagement, to job interest and attraction of top talent.
The top 15 startups in Indonesia are:
1. Sociolla
Heading marketing at beauty-tech company Sociolla is Christani Indiana, who is co-founder and CMO. The company was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in Jakarta. According to Indiana, the company has established its core value as a foundation for employees through fast, agile, positive, ownership and continuous improvement. The brand also recently launched its Love Local campaign to support local Indonesian brands during the pandemic.
2. Kopi Kenangan
Cynthia Chaerunnisa has been CMO at Kopi Kenangan since 2019. She was previously marketing manager at Shopee and Uber, and was Indonesia's head of marketing for Sephora Digital SEA. Headquartered in Jakarta, Kopi Kenangan sells coffee and tea from tiny retail spaces and has more than 400 stores across 26 cities in Indonesia.
3. Sayurbox
As head of marketing communications at Sayurbox, Oshin Hernis was responsible for all of the company's marketing communications channels. Before this, Hernis was head of customer service at Ninja Xpress. Headquartered in Jakarta, the eCommerce platform was founded in 2016, and looks to solve unfair pricing in Indonesia by mondernising the fresh food supply chain.
4. Ajaib
Gladys Prawati recently joined Indonesia-based stock brokerage Ajaib as its VP of marketing in July this year. Prior to joining Ajaib, Prawati was head of brand marketing and campaign orchestration at Traveloka, where she was tasked with building the global brand through meaningful and relevant brand campaigns, including social media and market research. She was also previously senior brand manager at HM Sampoerna and junior brand manager at Campbell Arnott's.
5. Flip
Astari Deardaza joined Flip as its brand marketing specialist in October last year. Working alongside her is Asriana S. Septari, who is currently digital marketing manager. A quick search by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE revealed that Flip is currently on the hunt for a PR lead. Headquartered in Depok, West Java, Flip allows customers to send money securely across the biggest banks in Indonesia without any transaction fees. Additionally, Flip boasts a low cost entry point to more than 100 banks across Indonesia for business users.
6. Lemonilo
Leading the marketing team at health food startup Lemonilo is Johan Leo, who is currently VP for sales and marketing. Supporting him is PR and comms manager Satrio Sih Pinandhito, who recently joined the company in July this year. Pinandhito is tasked with developing materials for media release - including press releases, features, and long-form articles - and managing enquiries from media, individuals and other organisations.

7. Ruangguru
Education tech start-up Ruangguru was founded in Indonesia at 2014 by Belva Devara. It has seven brands both for K12 and lifelong segment. It also operates in Vietnam and Thailand. A quick check done by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE found out that the company is currently looking for a content marketing lead. Currently helming the role of VP marketing is Ignatius Untung. He recently only took on the role, having worked as the head of brand and marketing group for LinkAja for over a year.
8. Mamikos
Tech company Mamikos was founded by Maria Regina Anggit Tut Pinilih in 2015. Current head of marketing, Niva Widya, has been in the role for two years since July 2019. Prior to her role in Mamikos, Widya was in tech company, Bukalapak for three years. She first helmed the role of demand growth lead for nine months before taking on the role of senior online marketing manager for over two years. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has found out that there were no marketing roles opened in the company at the moment.
9. Tanihub
Currently helming the role of digital marketing lead is Grace Christiana. She has spent three years in the company, and is responsible for the company's digital marketing efforts. Throughout her career, Christiana held on to several marketing roles such as head of digital marketing of InboundID and digital marketing specialist at Starcom. The agri culture start-up Tanihub Group was founded in 2015 by William Setiawan and Michael Sugianto. TaniHub along with TaniFund focus on connecting farmers with market while ensuring their access to financial (through P2P lending system) and technical supports. A check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE found that the company is currently looking a CRM senior specialist and VP of marketing through its LinkedIn.
10. Andalin
Andre Medimar is currently the brand and marketing manager of Andalin. Helming the role for six months, Andre is experienced in marketing and skilled in brand strategy, research and marketing planning. He was previously from Ruangguru where he was the senior marketing associate for eight months and the product marketing lead for 10 months. Founded by Rifki Pratomo, Andalin is a digital freight forwarding expert that simplifies the complexity of import and export shipments for companies in Indonesia.
11. Shipper
Marina Hindarko is the AVP, marketing at Shipper. Hindarko first started as the marketing manager for the company in 2020, where she held on the role for a year. She than held on the role of senior marketing manager for eight months before her current role. Founded in 2017, Shipper is growing tech company in Indonesia. In just a few years, it has built a vast network of fulfilment centers and partnered with hundreds of local delivery companies across the country. Shipper is a Series B funded company backed by DST Global partners, Sequoia Capital India, Prosus Ventures, Floodgate, Lightspeed, Insignia Ventures, AC Ventures and Y Combinator.
12. Ula
Ivan Aditya is currently head of marketing for Ula. He joined the company eight months ago. Prior to Ula, he was the digital marketing manager for Tunas Group. Founded by Nipun Mehra, Indonesia-focused marketplace Ula leverages the power of technology to level the playing field for small retailers. Its B2B marketplace provides small retailers competitive pricing, wide & accessible variety and favourable payment terms.
13. HappyFresh
Leading marketing at HappyFresh is David Lim, who is currently VP, marketing. He joined the team in 2018 from Scoot where he was previously performance marketing lead for two years, according to his LinkedIn. Lim describes himself to be a seasoned marketer specialised in paid, owned and earned media, marketing strategies, and content marketing, among others. He also has experience on the agency side, having spent two years at Starcom as digital manager. Before that, Lim worked at Singtel, EY and Standard Chartered Bank.
14. CoLearn
CoLearn was founded in 2018 first as IQ Education to create a competitive leader in education in Indonesia. IQ Education was comprised of a team of experienced teachers at the global level with a focus on imparting various skills to Indonesian children. The company rebranded to CoLearn last year to equip students in Indonesia with the lessons and skills to compete at a global level. Currently led by co-founder and CEO Abhay Saboo, the subjects offered by CoLearn include Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. A quick check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE did not show any marketing roles open or appointed.
15. BukuWarung
Ika Paramita Prasetyo leads marketing at BukuWarung as head of marketing. BukuWarung builds the digital infrastructore for 60 million micro and small medium enterprises in Indonesia, enabling them to efficiently manage and grow their business. These include digital bookkeeping, online storefront and payments. Before BukuWarung, Ika was VP, marketing, technology at Airy and VP, eCommerce business, mobile and telco at Erafone Dot Com, according to her LinkedIn. She also worked at Sony Mobile Communications, Beiersdorf, and Unilever.
