Following Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s latest cabinet reshuffle, the Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) will reportedly split into the Communications Ministry and the Digital Ministry.
Helming the new Digital Ministry is Gobind Singh Deo who served as the former Communications and Multimedia Minister from 2018 to 2020. Ugak Anak Kumbong has also reportedly been appointed as the deputy digital minister.

Minister Gobind said that in the current era of digitalisation, a specialised ministry is apt to better prepare the country for future challenges, as reported by Bernama. Media reports also stated that PM Anwar said the split of KKD is due to the government's major focus on digital transformation next year.
Former KKD minister, Fahmi Fadzil will take on the role of communications minister in the newly formed Communications Ministry along with deputy communications minister Teo Nie Ching.
Minister Fahmi also added that the separation of duties proves PM Anwar’s determination to ensure the continued growth of the nation’s digital economy, according to Bernama.
He further said that over the next few weeks, the functions and duties of the two newly formed ministries will be more clearly defined as the ministry focuses on the year ahead.
As Malaysia focuses on its digital economy, it has made strides this year by securing over RM37.4 billion in investment commitments for the digital technology sector, according to Minister Fahmi.
Speaking at the Malaysia Digital Expo (MDX), Fadzil reportedly said that this inflow of investments promises the creation of at least 15,895 high-value jobs.
