From time to time, restaurant chains will launch unusual food items to surprise their customers. In Taiwan, KFC has rolled out some weird and wonderful products and hooked the attention from YouTubers to maximise their impact.
KFC Taiwan has worked with Krispy Kreme to launch a doughnut burger, containing a fried chicken thigh between two Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Aiming to maximise the earned media impact and get the attention of Taiwan's younger generation, the fast-food chain has leveraged the burger's high concept nature. Its hoped to attract YouTubers to follow up on its release as the burger is given a limited item release across selected outlets in Taiwan.
In one such YouTube video, online influencer Joeman tried the new burger and shared his comments about it. He also advised that in order to buy the burger before they sell out, it's best to do so before 11am. Interestingly, this shows the increasing trend of reviewers and bloggers going beyond just rating items and providing advice on purchase practices.
In addition to the burger, KFC Taiwan also set up a 10-day fried chicken skin pop-up store before Chinese New Year. The new product attracted a number of Taiwanese YouTubers to create content, such as Goris Sky, and HuangHuangBrother.
