KFC Singapore has launched its latest limited-edition burger ‘Zhng’ Zinger born from KFC Singapore’s outreach and crowdsourcing efforts from KFC fans. Posted on TikTok by social media personality Zaki Hussain, the short clip featured his opinion on how he would elevate the taste of the classic KFC Zinger by adding a few additional ingredients that he loves. The video caught the attention of local content creators who attempted to recreate his burger, while KFC fans flocked to the TikTok post and tagged KFC Singapore to consider the suggestion.
Seeing the positive response and demands from fans for Hussain's burger, KFC Singapore decided to pick up Zaki’s idea and satisfy fans’ curiosity about how a zhng-ed up Zinger would be. KFC incorporated the suggestion, and added new ingredients, creating the new ‘Zhng’ Zinger (‘Zhng’ means upgrade in Hokkien). The burger has a special blend of white BBQ sauce, and fiery red-hot sauce. The crowdsourced ‘Zhng’ Zinger will be available from 21 October 2022 for a limited time only for dine-in, takeaway, and KFC Delivery.
MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to KFC for a statement.
Over the past year, KFC Singapore has clearly upped its advertising and promotion activities. In February the brand went all out to relaunch its signature Original Recipe breakfast menu with an “#UnboringMorning” campaign, and a troupe of jubilant dancers, clad in KFC’s signature striped uniform were hired to kick the campaign off.
The dancers served a selection of signature Original Recipe breakfast dishes to an upbeat playlist curated on Spotify to dispel Monday morning blues. The list included songs such as Bad Habits, Ice Cream, 24K Magic, Savage Love and many others.
In July, it launched a KFC-themed multi-sensory pop-up installation called the #MEANDMYKFC Installation, alongside the annual International Fried Chicken Day Party to mark its 45th anniversary. The installation is divided into a series of colourful KFC-inspired sets that are interactive and Instagrammable, alongside a display of vintage KFC collectibles from the 1970s.
In June, KFC Singapore appointed Ninemer Communications to manage PR duties for 12 months following a pitch with four other agencies. Ninemer is supporting KFC in communications efforts including strategies and initiatives to generate a strong brand presence. In addition, Ninemer will also leverage its expertise in influencer management to support the brand’s other initiatives.
