HKT, Kai Tak Sports Park and Hip Hing Engineering partner for 5G smart construction

5G is designed to usher a new era for technology and means of development into our lives. As HKT, Hip Hing Engineering and Kai Tak Sports Park build the future of sports facilities in Hong Kong, the three companies have joined forces to realise the potential of 5G in the park's construction.

The construction site will be the first in Hong Kong with a dedicated 5G infrastructure, enhancing developers' abilities through mobile management, robotics and Internet of Things. With faster and more powerful data transmission, the site will enable more efficient communication and ultimately better work among construction personnel.

Across 28 hectares, HKT has set up a network of 5G base stations, routers, and Wi-Fi access points that will serve around 2,000 workers with speeds around 20 times faster than 4G. 4K HDR cameras have also been installed to allow for monitoring of the site and enhanced safety both during and after working hours. The Kai Tak Sports Park team is also considering adding an AI layer to additionally minimise safety risks for workers — an addition that can be made possible with the support of 5G technology.
