IPG Mediabrands, the media holding company within Interpublic Group, has named Darren Yuen (pictured left), former CEO Initiative Malaysia, to the elevated role of CEO IPG Mediabrands Malaysia.
The announcement comes following the news that long-standing CEO of IPG Mediabrands Malaysia, Bala Pomaleh (pictured right) made the decision to leave the business to focus on the next stage of his career. Pomaleh joined IPG Mediabrands from Carat in 2016.
Leigh Terry, CEO, IPG Mediabrands APAC said: “Pomaleh has spent 8.5 years building IPG Mediabrands Malaysia to the much celebrated, industry-leading media network it stands proud as today. He leaves with our thanks and appreciation for his commitment and lasting impact.”
Meanwhile, Yuen is an industry leader with 27 years media experience, including eight years within the IPG Mediabrands Malaysia network. He was most recently the CEO of Initiative Malaysia. Yuen’s journey in the media industry also involved him being the CEO of Carat Malaysia post the departure of Pomaleh. He will be based in Kuala Lumpur and will report to Terry.
"I could not be more pleased to appoint the Malaysia CEO from within our own network ranks,” said Terry. “With his passion, drive, and unsurpassed knowledge of the Malaysian media landscape, Darren embodies our commitment to craft and innovation on this strategic transformation journey."
"I am honoured to take on the role of CEO IPG Mediabrands Malaysia,” added Yuen. “This is such an exciting time for our business, and a fantastic opportunity to empower our talented network of people to push the boundaries of how we can deliver exceptional value to our clients."
In July, IPG Mediabrands Malaysia also picked Stephanie Foong as its new chief investment officer to be responsible for all legacy and new media investments within the group, with a focus on buying accountability and innovation. Foong's role will oversee all aspects of IPG Mediabrands’ investment initiatives, focusing on maximising value for clients through data-driven insights and innovative media strategies.
