The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has relocated its regional director of Southeast Asia Raymond Chan (pictured) to Hong Kong head office and appointed him as general manager, event and product development, with effect from 1 July. In his new role, Chan will report to HKTB executive director Dane Cheng.

This comes as HKTB sees mega events as an important platform to promote Hong Kong's tourism as they showcase the unique appeal and offer diverse experiences to visitors, according to Cheng.

"I am confident that, with his extensive knowledge and experience in marketing and tourism, Chan will be able to bring new elements to HKTB’s mega events and further strengthen the collaborations with partners of citywide events to reinforce Hong Kong’s status as the events capital of Asia," he added.

Chan joined the HKTB in 2012, having held a number of key marketing and public affairs positions in Southeast Asian and other markets. He was promoted to the position of regional director, Southeast Asia in May 2018, and has been responsible for developing and driving marketing strategies and promotions of Hong Kong in the region.

Prior to HKTB, Chan was the regional head of marketing and commercial at AirAsia, where he was responsible for strategising AirAsia's overall branding, PR, B2C marketing, digital and market development activities in Hong Kong, Macau and China to achieve overall P&L and KPIs with strong creation, development and successful execution of a comprehensive marcom strategy focusing on driving consumer direct channels.  He was also tasked at deploying creative channels including digital, SEM, social media as well as event activations to maximise business opportunities in a cost-efficient manner and to build a consistent level of ‘buzz’ around the brand.

Meanwhile, Martin Gwee, currently director, marketing, Southeast Asia, will be promoted to director, Southeast Asia.

Back in April, HKTB named dentsu its global media partner for Asia Pacific, Europe and North America, effective immediately. Upon the appointment, dentsu will work closely with HKTB globally to develop global communications strategy, media planning and buying, as well as supporting HKTB head office and worldwide offices.
