Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX)’s group chief communications officer Tori Cowley (pictured) has decided to step down from her role at the end of 2023, as confirmed to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE.

Cowley will return to the UK full time, but will continue to work with the group in 2024 as a special advisor to the HKEX Board.

Cowley joined HKEX in 2018 and has been leading the corporate communications division of the group. Prior to HKEX, She was the group director of corporate affairs and investor relations at Mitie in the UK. Before that, she had also been the group communications director of the London Stock Exchange for over seven years.

The spokesperson of HKEX said an announcement on her successor will be made in due course. HKEX thanks Cowley for her significant contributions to the group over the past five years.

Back in August, HKEX named John Hsu as managing director and group chief technology officer, succeeding Richard Leung, who will become the group chief information officer.

Reporting to Leung, Hsu joined the group on 29 September 2023 and has become a member of the group’s management committee. He will head the group’s IT infrastructure, operations, development and support functions in Hong Kong, as well as HKEX’s Innovation and Data Lab and its Mainland Technology Centre.

In his new role, Leung will continue to have oversight of the group’s technology strategy and functions, and will also focus on a number of key strategic group-wide projects. He will continue to report to HKEX CEO Nicolas Aguzin.

The appointment comes upon the launch of HKEX's London office, as part of its international expansion. The new London office will consolidate HKEX’s presence in the UK, and connect European clients with Asia’s most international, diverse and liquid capital markets.

It will provide on-the-ground support to customers in the region, helping them to access Hong Kong's broad and diverse product ecosystem, and capture the opportunities arising from some of the major megatrends that define Asia’s growth story.
