HK Olympic medalist Doo Hoi-kem goes viral on Weibo after CCTV interview

Hong Kong Olympic medallist and table tennis player Doo Hoi-kem has become a popular figure on Weibo after saying that she wants to visit Beijing and watch the flag-raising ceremony with her medal. 

According to multiple reports including the South China Morning Post and Sing Tao Daily, Doo is now trending on Weibo after an interview with state broadcaster CCTV, and the interview has been reported widely on China's domestic news sites. She said in the interview that she hoped to visit Tiananmen after the Olympic Games, and wanted to take her medal to Beijing to watch the flag-raising ceremony, adding that she is Chinese which is an indisputable fact. 

Doo also told in the interview that she was proud of winning the medal, as the Hong Kong team, consisting of the other two players Lee Ho Ching and Minnie So, joined the Chinese team on the podium as they won the gold medal. After the ceremony, the Chinese team invited the Hong Kong team to take a picture which made Doo feel that it was a precious moment. Doo further said that they were like a family and bringing glory for the country together. 

The interview was popular among Chinese netizens and many users leaving comments to welcome her to Beijing. Doo said many of her friends sent her sending the news of being a hot search on Weibo. Doo said she was surprised that she could repost the story on Weibo and loved by netizens, adding that she was grateful to them for welcoming her to the country.  Doo has been training with the Chinese national table tennis team over the years. She said she learnt a lot from the team and their fighting spirit had inspired her.
