In a move to support local athletes who are competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics, Grab Malaysia will be offering gold medalists up to one million GrabRewards and a year's worth of free GrabFood.

In addition, every Malaysian athlete participating in the games will receive an additional 50,000 GrabReward points. The gesture, according to a statement seen by A+M, is a way of showing appreciation to the athletes for their hard work and dedication.

“We at Grab Malaysia, are incredibly honoured to stand behind our Malaysian athletes as they give their all at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. Their dedication and resilience inspire us, and we hope this token motivates them even further to make our nation proud," said Adelene Foo, managing director of Grab Malaysia.

"To our athletes, your journey truly embodies the Malaysian spirit and know that we will be supporting and cheering you on, every step of the way," she added.

Silver medallists, on the other hand, will receive one year's worth of free GrabFood orders and 500,000 GrabReward points.

"I would like to thank Grab who came forward to support our athletes with this incentive. This shows that the private sector believes in our athletes and are confident that they are capable of bringing home the first gold for Malaysia," said youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh.

Bronze medallists will receive one year's worth of free GrabFood orders and 250,000 GrabReward points.

Grab Malaysia has also gifted RM100 GrabVoucher each to all the 110 coaches and officials involved in the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.

"With this latest initiative, the competing national contingent are bound to be even more fired up to perform at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. We stand with them, cheering them on, as they make our nation proud," said Grab Malaysia in a statement.

In a recent study by Ipsos, it was revealed that Malaysians have a higher interest in the 2024 Paris Games than the average of 33 countries. Currently, 64% of Malaysians have expressed enthusiasm for the Olympics, while the global country average is at 57%.

The study found that Asian countries, especially China and the Southeast Asia regions have shown very high interest in the games. Interestingly, interest in France (46%) and past host country Japan (40%) showed lower excitement.

Out of all the sports events, badminton is the most anticipated among Malaysians (58%), surpassing the global average and many other countries.

Football comes in second with 35%, followed by athletics (25%), aquatics (18%) and cycling (17%).
