Garena has unveiled an exclusive "Free Fire x Money Heist" live action short film for its Indonesian players. The three-minute film features Indonesian actor and martial artist Joe Taslim as his in-game character "Jota". Drawing reference from popular Netflix series "Money Heist", the film showed Jota and the other Free Fire characters (Moco, Andrew, Kelly, and Hayato) using their in-game abilities for a heist. The film ends with Jota himself inviting Free Fire players to join him and the characters in-game. Marketing Interactive has reached out for additional information.
The film is in line with Garena's recent partnership with Netflix in July, which sees a new game mode created that is a crossover between Money Heist and Free Fire. In the new game mode, players race against the opposing team to collect the most bank notes before the time runs out. The first team to reach the target amount of bank notes in the allotted time wins.
According to a Harold Teo, producer, Garena, the Money Heist game mode is Garena's way of creating memorable experiences for its Free Fire community, which is key to the team. “Many of us at Garena are fans of the show, and so are millions of our players worldwide. We are thrilled that we can deliver this crossover to our community. We hope they enjoy it as much as we did bringing this together," Teo added.
Garena first introduced the Jota character as its first-ever playable Indonesian character in the game. Modelled after Taslim, the character is a military spy disguised as a movie stuntman who specialises in parkour. Christian Wihananto, country producer, Garena Indonesia, said then that having Taslim's character in Free Fire not only gets local players excited, but can also be used to highlight Indonesia to the rest of the world. Taslim, who was a former member of the Indonesian national judo team before pursuing acting full-time, has acted in films such as The Raid, Fast & Furious 6, and Star Trek Beyond.
