Foodpanda has confirmed to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that it is making job cuts to some of its teams. While the company did not specify which teams will be impacted and if there will be any senior leadership changes, its spokesperson said it is supporting impacted employees to help them through this transition, through employee assistance programmes and extended insurance and benefits.

"To our impacted colleagues – we are very sorry we let them down; we will forever be grateful for their contributions and dedication to foodpanda," the company added. Foodpanda has been operating in Asia for the past 10 years and the spokesperson said that it wants to continue contributing to its digital future. "With Delivery Hero’s clear objective to become EBITDA-positive, there is a critical need now to reduce costs and move to profitability to remain competitive," the spokesperson added. A check on LinkedIn by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE found that there are over 12k employees in foodpanda.

This news comes a few months after it launched its regional headquarters in Singapore and the foodpanda PowerUp! Tech Academy. Its regional headquarters houses 1,200 employees from its regional and local operational teams as well as the company's global hub. The foodpanda PowerUp! Tech Academy will use its parent company Delivery Hero’s global knowledge base in Singapore to power the tech and innovation ecosystem. At the same time, it also appointed its Singapore MD, Lawrence Wen, who is tasked to accelerate the growth of foodpanda Singapore's business across different verticals.

Foodpanda is not the only company to be making job cuts in recent times. Just last week, Garena is reportedly making job cuts, with about 30 to 40 jobs being potentially redundant. At the same time, it is also halting its game livestream platform and axing projects at its development unit Sea Labs. Its sister company Shopee also made regional job cuts across Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, as well as Mexico, Chile, and Argentina. It also pulled out of Spain in June.
