The Malaysian government has not made any decision regarding a request by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to remove the Man on the Run documentary on Netflix, according to communications minister Fahmi Fadzil.
Man on the Run is a 98-minute documentary film currently airing on Netflix. It revolves around the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal and features interviews with politicians and personalities including Najib himself.
Fahmi said that some initial views have been conveyed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), but more consideration must be made based on the law because it involves a court case.

Speaking to reporters at ceramic art exhibition 'Raqoo', Fahmi added that he will hold a meeting with the MCMC to scrutinise the legal aspects of the issue before making any further announcements.
This comes after Fahmi said that there was no formal request made to remove Man on the Run during a Cabinet meeting press conference.
He clarified that no request has reached his department for action either.
Last week, Najib's lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, filed an application in High Court urging the Malaysian government to remove Man on the Run from Netflix.
In addition, the former prime minister reportedly threatened legal action against former attorney general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas and Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown over statements they made in the documentary.
During the trial, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigating officer Senior Superintendent Nur Aida Arifin testified that Najib did not highlight two 1MDB subsidiaries’ taking on of debts via the issuance of bonds totalling US$3.5 billion in 2012 to the Cabinet, according to media reports.
The proceedings were reportedly adjourned, and the hearing will continue on 24 January.
