The Energy Market Authority of Singapore has selected global communications consultancy WE Communications (WE) to develop its strategic communications programme and social media campaigns focused on Singapore’s energy transition. This comes as EMA ramps up efforts to decarbonise the power sector, in line with the country’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

WE Communications said it will be tasked to elevate public understanding and awareness of Singapore’s energy transition and its considerations. This will take course over the next two years to facilitate informed discourse on energy issues.
The tie-up also aims to address the "energy trilemma", which is based on balancing energy security, sustainability and affordability.
“Our ability stands behind the nation to contribute to this collective vision of a sustainable Singapore is important and I’m glad we can play a big part in helping Singapore move in that direction,” said Daryl Ho, managing director, WE Singapore. He also framed the partnership as more than a communications mandate, and that it reflected WE’s ongoing commitment to advocate for Singapore.
Singapore had recently set a new climate target to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to between 45 million and 50 million tonnes by 2035, in line with the 2050 aim, the Straits Times reported. The Republic also said in a 31-page submission to the UN that it will be a challenge due to its resource scarcity and limited alternative energy options.
Just this month, The Straits Times reported that the EMA plans to tap expert knowledge to study the viability of nuclear energy for Singapore. The EMA had released a tender on government procurement website GeBiz calling for proposals from consultants.
