Dior taps Mandopop singer Jay Chou as global brand ambassador

Luxury fashion house Dior has named Asia's iconic Mandopop superstar Jay Chou as its newest global ambassador for Dior fashion and men's collections. This is the brand's first time to collaborate with a Mandopop artist, and the singer’s first ambassador deal with a fashion brand.

Chou, also known as the "King of Mandopop", is a singer-songwriter, director and actor, and is considered as one of the most popular singers in Asia, having sold more than 30 million records. 

Recently, Chou also concluded his Carnival world concert tour at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, attracting over 70,000 fans and audiences. He was also seen performing some of his well known songs in a selection of exclusively designed Dior outfits designed by Dior's creative director Kim Jones.

The artist was chosen for his similarity to the Dior style, embodying the spirit and singularity of the brand. “Driven by audacity and creativity, this alliance celebrates more than ever the special ties uniting Dior and culture in all its forms,” Dior said in an official statement.

When asked about his new role, Chou said, “I am thrilled to join Dior as a global ambassador and am very grateful for Dior's custom-designed stage ensembles for the concerts in Bangkok. We have been working together on the stage outfits and performing in Dior, which truly makes the stage experience incredibly special.”

“I am looking forward to our journey ahead with Dior,” he added.

Under the partnership, Chou will join other international stars such as Jisoo from BLACKPINK and Robert Pattinson. Among these stars is K-pop star Jimin as the brand looks ahead to tap into the popularity of Korean stars in an attempt to win over younger shoppers.

The brand also took to its Instagram to celebrate the news, which is accompanied by a picture of Chou modelling an outfit from the collection. In its post, Dior wrote: “A class act both off- and onstage, Jay Chou, our new global ambassador for Dior fashion, exudes effortless elegance, with the Mandopop artist embodying the spirit and singularity of the House's style.”
