DHL Express (DHL) has launched limited-edition fashion pieces made from its retired courier uniforms to promote sustainable fashion in Hong Kong and support the next generation of designers.

Refashioned by Angus Tsui, a local designer known for his sustainable designs, the limited-edition sling bags, shoulder bags and wallets are made by utilising retired DHL uniform items, including waterproof combi jackets, raincoats, cargo trousers and quilted liners, while ensuring durability and functionality.

To further advocate for and support local sustainable fashion, DHL will partner with Hong Kong-based environmental non-governmental organisation Redress to hold a charity sale. All profits will be donated towards the Redress’ work to provide development support to emerging designers in their alumni network via the Redress Design Award programme. These designers represent a new generation focused on sustainability and circularity as much as desirability, according to the release.

The upcycled bags will be available for pre-order starting 8 January, featuring exclusive delivery by DHL Express using GoGreen Plus, a solution designed to help shippers reduce CO2e emissions through the use of sustainable aviation fuel.

A spokesperson from DHL told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that the limited-edition pieces are being promoted through various online channels, including DHL's website, Redress, and Tsui's social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, along with collaborations with key opinion leaders (KOLs). Additionally, DHL has displayed the pieces at its service points in Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai, as well as at the Redress Closet in Sham Shui Po.

Andy Chiang, senior vice president and managing director, DHL Express Hong Kong and Macau, said: “Underlining our commitment to the development of sustainable fashion in Hong Kong, we are extremely excited to give retired DHL uniforms a second life through Tsui’s creativity. This initiative contributes to DHL’s mission as a leading logistics partner in the fashion and retail industry, enhancing sustainability awareness.”

“Moreover, we are proud to put the limited-edition fashion pieces up for sale, supporting a charitable cause in collaboration with Redress, and aiming to further promote a positive change in the industry,” Chiang added.

“I am thrilled to be working with DHL and Redress, especially on this meaningful and exciting project that creates a positive impact on the environment and supports a charitable cause. It’s an honour that this design won the DHL GoGreen Plus Alumni Prize in the Redress Design Award 2024. Now I also take pride in seeing the idea come to life through retired DHL courier uniforms, transforming them into stylish, functional fashion pieces inspired by the journey of a DHL shipment while highlighting the brand’s iconic look, logo, and colours,” Tsui said.
