Citygate Outlets has joined hands with an eco-preneur HK Timberbank to launch a Lautau-inspired wood bench, so as to raise public awareness on natural resource regeneration and living a more sustainable lifestyle.
Also known as "WOOD" You, the collaboration is aligned with Swire Properties' SD 2030 Strategy, and is incorporated three key sustainable development (SD) considerations including placemaking, resource management and circularity, and biodiversity into different aspects.
Inspired by the Lantau landform, a 9.6-metre long wood bench was transformed from the collected wood and is now placed on L2 at Citygate Outlets, providing a tranquil corner for Tung Chung community to connect with people and nature through art, creativity and sustainability. The wood bench installation is rich in Lantau Island local characteristics, as it is made up of upcycled wood from different areas of Lantau Island including Mui Wo, Tung Chung and Chi Ma Wan, in addition to the donation by Mink.
The launch of the wood bench installation, which has merged art, creativity and sustainability for the community to relax and chill, aims to help to establish more intimate people-to-people and people-to-nature relationships, where people can learn more about the recycled woods from Lantau Island.
Most importantly, it hopes to foster the circular use of natural resources and build a stronger tie with the Lantau community. Visitors can appreciate the bench from multiple angles in the shopping mall — looking down from above on the bench is just like looking at the entire landscape of Lantau Island.
Wing Chiu, general manager of Citygate, hoped that the wood bench installation could connect the community with its unique design, and the guests could come and spend comforting time here. "We also hope that the wood bench installation can enable everyone to appreciate the importance of environmental protection, and encourage everyone to take steps and do more. We welcome guests to appreciate the wood bench installation whenever they visit Citygate Outlets. Touch it with their hand, feel it with their heart, and see if there is a different experience," she said.
In addition to the display of the wood bench, the campaign is followed with an array of sustainable activities, including a three-hour exclusive healing journey designed by social enterprise Nature Bathing, offering the community a refreshing opportunity to step into offers the community a refreshing opportunity to step into nature with immersive and interactive experiences. Citygate Outlets has sponsored grassroots families and needy groups to participate in this experience.
Furthermore, the HK Timberbank pop-up store is offering the venue-limited “Hong Kong Log Coaster and Wood Oil Care Set”, which includes a Hong Kong log coaster and wood oil. The public can see and feel what second life is offered to waste materials, as well as learn more about the vision and work of HK Timberbank.
