Cathay Pacific has apologised and launched an investigation after a toilet door dislodged during a flight.

This comes as two photos have been circulating on social media platform Threads, with captions claiming that "The bathroom door was blown right off within three minutes of takeoff. (起飛三分鐘,廁所門直接噴飛)”, according to HK01.

One photo shows a female flight attendant sitting in the cabin crew seat, wearing a seatbelt, and using one hand to hold onto a fallen toilet door. Meanwhile, another photo depicts the same flight attendant, along with other cabin crew members, addressing the issue with the toilet.

Cathay Pacific said in a statement to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that a toilet door on the CX840 flight from Hong Kong to New York on 15 July was not functioning properly. The defect is rectified and its engineering team is performing a follow-up investigation.

Cathay Pacific added that the safety of its customers and crew members is its top priority, and has apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers by this incident.

Yesterday, Cathay Pacific apologised and opened a probe after a video showed its staff member throwing a passenger's luggage. This came after TVB programme “Scoop” (東張西望) featured a video on Tuesday showing a ground staff member throwing luggage down the stairs in the airport departure lounge.

Cathay Pacific said in a statement that the incident involved an employee of one of their ground handling service providers. Meanwhile, it has immediately removed the involved staff from the existing position, pending further investigation.

It has also apologised to the affected passengers and said it will require the ground handling service provider to strengthen overall staff training and supervision to ensure that such incidents will not occur again.
