Calvin Klein names BTS' Jung Kook as global brand ambassador

South Korean K-pop sensation Jung Kook from BTS has joined the Calvin Klein family after the Maison revealed that the star would be its new global brand ambassador for Calvin Klein Jeans and Calvin Klein Underwear.

The announcement was made on the brand's social media channels and came a day after it posted a short teaser video with the caption: “Same time tomorrow?”

The star made his debut for the brand in a new campaign wearing the brand’s Spring 2023 collection. Notably, he donned Calvin Klein's 90s straight denim and body jeans, relaxed fit denim shirt, oversized denim jacket and relaxed fit standard logo crewneck tee.

The campaign, which was shot by Park Jong Ha, debuted on social media to much fanfare with many fans of the star praising the campaign images.

“We pride ourselves on identifying globally relevant talent whose cultural impact and values align with our own. Jung Kook is one of the world’s most popular artists, he possesses a rare ability to connect with international audiences through both his music and his style. We’re fortunate and excited to have him join the Calvin Klein team,” said Jonathan Bottomley, the global chief marketing officer of Calvin Klein, in a release.

“I have been a fan of Calvin Klein for a long time, and I’m thrilled to be their newest global ambassador," added on Jung Kook. "This partnership is very special, as Calvin Klein’s heritage and brand values resonate with me," he said. He added that his music is how he communicates with fans around the world, and that he sees this partnership as an opportunity to connect with fans in a new way. "I’m incredibly excited for people to see a new side of me in this first campaign for the brand,” Jung Kook concluded.

This isn't the first time a brand has named a BTS member an ambassador. Tiffany & Co. named K-pop star Jimin as its new global brand ambassador, marking the company's latest tap into the popularity of Korean stars in an attempt to win over younger shoppers. Released on the brand's social media platforms as part of its upcoming advertising campaign, the still shot has featured Jimin wearing several of the brand's "Lock" braceletsUnder the partnership, Jimin will showcase his own approach to jewelry styling as he wears signature Tiffany & Co. designs in forthcoming campaigns.

Jimin was also recently named global brand ambassador by French fashion and luxury house Dior as it looks ahead to tap into the popularity of Korean stars in an attempt to win over younger shoppers. The news was announced on Dior’s social media platforms with images if the BTS star dressed in all black in a sporty outfit that was designed by Kim Jones.
