Burson HK names new co-managing directors

Burson, a new global communications agency formed from a merger between BCW and Hill & Knowlton, has named Madison Wai (pictured right) and Angela Kung (pictured left) as its new co-managing directors. They report to Simeon Mellalieu, CEO of Burson Hong Kong.

Within their new roles, Wai will continue leading the corporate practice at Burson Hong Kong and Kung will lead the financial communications for the agency, driving more impactful communications campaigns and connecting corporations with the community.

Wai joined Hill & Knowlton as director or corporate communications practice in 2020, and was most recently the co-general manager of Hong Kong, co-leading the local office with her partner Kung.

Meanwhile, Kung first joined Hill & Knowlton in 2011 as account director. Over the years, she had helmed various senior roles within the agency.

The promotions come following the recent appointment of Simeon Mellalieu as Burson Hong Kong CEO. Within his new role, Mellalieu will oversee Burson’s operations in Hong Kong, leading innovation and business growth, client excellence and people. 

"Hong Kong continues to be one of our key strategic hubs for our operations across the Asia-Pacific region and Mellalieu's appointment underscores our commitment to reinforcing our leadership in this critical growth market," said HS Chung, North APAC CEO, Burson.

Mellalieu brings 25 years of experience counselling multinational companies on national, regional, and global communication strategies that build brands and protect reputations, according to the release. 

Most recently, Mellalieu helmed the role of partner, client development at Ketchum Asia-Pacific and managing director at Ketchum Hong Kong. According to his LinkedIn, Mellalieu was responsible for driving agency growth across Ketchum's Asia Pacific offices by supporting client development, enhancing its products and services, and facilitating the new business process.
