BLOCK71 brings Judson Teo onboard as group head of marketing

Asian startup ecosystem and initiative under NUS Enterprise has appointed Judson Teo as its new group head of marketing and marketing advisor to startups.
In his new role, Teo will split his time between overseeing BLOCK71's brand strategy and advising founders on marketing challenges their startups face, according to his LinkedIn page.
"Years ago, when I was still in public service, the startup scene in Singapore and beyond was at boiling point. Many friends went off to join them and that made me very curious about how marketing was like in the private sector, in startups," wrote Teo in a LinkedIn update.

"With a great stroke of luck, I joined Grab, and it was mind-blowing. Though already a super late-stage startup and just at the cusp of IPO, I was exposed to growth marketing techniques that I had never seen," he explained, adding that this got him fascinated with experimentation, white spaces and product launches.
"I suppose this is why I find myself at BLOCK71 today, rubbing shoulders with startup founders, figuring out with them how to optimise their marketing strategies. Because if there's a group of people who are also creators, experimenters and innovators, it would be the startup founders," he said.
As part of his new role, Teo will be launching 'Marketing Mixology' - a new quarterly marketing workshop series aimed at empowering startup founders to sharpen their marketing strategies.
The series will feature various marketing themes and invite relevant experts to provide hands-on guidance to founders.
While founders are adept at building products, many struggle to establish product-market fit, marketing strategies, and effective go-to-market plans. Through 'Marketing Mixology', BLOCK71 hopes to provide a support community for founders to specifically tackle these issues head-on, it said in a statement.
BLOCK71 will launch Marketing Mixology in two phases: a pre-launch networking mixer co-organised with UOB and SGTech; and an official launch at InnovFest.
Teo is an industry agnostic marketer with more than 15 years of experience across broadcast, tourism, consumer staples and consumer tech. Prior to his role in BLOCK71, Teo was the head of marketing (new verticals) at foodpanda., a role he held for just under two years.
Prior to that, Teo spent just under two years as assistant director of growth and engagement at FairPrice Group where he challenged conventional marketing practices and led a team to test new business white spaces that were aligned with market demands.
Before his stint with FairPrice Group, Teo worked at Grab, joining them as assistant regional partner marketing manager in 2019 and rising through the rank to become in charge of Singapore consumer marketing in 2020.
He has also worked in companies such as the Singapore Tourism Board and Cohn & Wolfe in his career.
