Bata Malaysia hands out shoes worth RM85k ahead of Tokyo Olympics

Bata Malaysia has been named the official shoes partner for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, marking the 20th year of its collaboration with the Olympic Council of Malaysia. As part of the sponsorship, 200 pairs of Power Sports shoes and 200 pairs of men’s and ladies shoes with an estimated retail value of RM 85,000 were handed out to the participating athletes, head of marketing Diana Wong told A+M. She added that the shoes were uniquely customised to match the Malaysian team's sporting apparel. Bata also provided custom-made men’s and ladies formal shoes for the March-Past ceremony.
"The Power footwear brand has been in Malaysia for more than 50 years and we have been here long before any other sports footwear brand was in the market. More importantly, we have stayed true to the brand promise of being an accessible sports shoes for everyone," she added.
The brand will be promoting the sponsorship through Facebook, Instagram and digital ads. Bata is also hosting a social media contest to hand out 20 pairs of limited edition not-for-sale athlete shoes. The shoes will be displayed at selected flagship stores once Bata's retail stores are allowed to open.
Acting country manager Duncan Cowe said that Bata Malaysia was “very honoured to become the official shoes partner of the OCM and the Malaysian Contingent”. He also added that the revamped Power shoes were designed to match the athletes' apparel and "showcase the fiery spirit of our national athletes".
Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines also came on board as an official airline partner for the Malaysian contingent ahead of the Olympic Games. It will be ferrying the officials and national contingent competing in 10 competitive sports at the Olympic Games. Among the athletes who will be travelling are Malaysia Airlines’ brand ambassadors, the national divers - Pandelela Rinong Pamg and Nur Dhabitah Sabri.
