Ant Bank (Hong Kong) has appointed Yvonne Leung as chief executive. Leung joined Ant Bank Hong Kong in November 2019. She was subsequently appointed as alternate chief executive and led the team to plan and execute various important initiatives, including setting up its business development strategy, designing the blueprint for building product lines, and defining different commercial imperatives and action plans.

Boasting more than 20 years of experience working in the banking industry, Leung worked for Hang Seng Bank until November 2019, where she led business banking and director banking. The banks said her past roles covered retail banking, product innovation and digital transformation, enabling her to gain deep insights in local consumer behaviour and market trends.

Leung replaces Michael Wong as chief executive, who joined Ant Bank (Hong Kong) in June 2020, according to Hong Kong Economic Times. Moreover, a report from Ming Pao detailed that Wangwas responsbile for the overall financial business development of the group in the Greater Bay Area.

The leadership of virtual banks have been shuffling over the past year. For example in September, Deniz Güven stepped down as CEO of Mox. In a press statement, Mox said Güven stepped down as CEO of Mox and executive director of the board, with effect from 27 September 2021, to pursue a new business venture. He serves as a special advisor to Standard Chartered on a number of important digital initiatives. Güven said in a LinkedIn post that the decision was a tough one for him and he is “incredibly proud of the many innovative and frictionless services the brand has launched” in “transforming the banking experience in Hong Kong”.
