AMTD Group acquires fashion brand VIVIENNE TAM

Hong Kong-based financial institution AMTD Group has acquired the fashion brand of Chinese-American designer Vivienne Tam, who grew up in Hong Kong. The acquisition includes the purchase of the brand's certain assets and intellectual properties globally. Tam will be appointed as head of design and creations of AMTD Digital and a board director of AMTD Digital.

Founded in 1993 in New York City by Tam, the international fashion brand VIVIENNE TAM is originated from its Hong Kong roots with Asian heritage which showcases AMTD Group’s global vision of building bridges between the east and the west. Through this assets acquisition, AMTD Group aims to develop and transform "VIVIENNE TAM" into a global front-running brand while stepping into the metaverse and entering a global network of Web3 partners.

The assets acquisition also hopes to foster the integration of VIVIENNE TAM with AMTD Group’s global network of key ecosystem players and intellectual properties including L’Officiel. The acquisition is expected to close in 2023.

Benjamin Eymère, chief metaverse officer of AMTD IDEA and chief executive officer of L’Officiel told Business Wire that VIVIENNE TAM’s digital Web3 strategy and creativity has impressed him. He would ensure the broadening of the brand’s community thanks to an aligned and impactful Web3 creative strategy. He was pleased to support VIVIENNE TAM in the development of its narrative and enhancement of its brand heritage, reflective of its Hong Kong roots and the beauty of a successful East meeting West story.

The fashion brand has recently launched an NFT- inspired collection in September this year, incorporating NFTs into its clothes. Tam hopes to bond people's lives in virtual world and their spending on physical goods by doing this, according to SCMP. Profile pictures and avatars of blue chips collections including CyberKongz, CryptoPunks and BAYC NFTs were printed on its collection
