AC Ventures' founding partner, Pandu Sjahrir (pictured), has been appointed by President Prabowo Subianto as the chief investment officer (CIO) of Danantara, Indonesia's newly established sovereign wealth fund, the VC firm announced.

Danantara, officially launched on 24 February, aims to manage over US$900 billion in assets, with an initial investment of US$20 billion allocated to more than 20 projects spanning sectors such as mineral resources, renewable energy, and food production.

Sjahrir brings a wealth of experience to his new role. As an angel investor, he has been instrumental in the early backing of prominent companies such as Gojek, Sea Limited, and Bukalapak. He has facilitated the raising of over US$1 billion for more than 100 companies, contributing to the creation of significant shareholder value and numerous employment opportunities in Southeast Asia.

In addition to his VC endeavours, Sjahrir has served as vice president director of TBS Energi Utama, an integrated energy company in Indonesia. He has also been appointed as a director at Electrum, a joint venture between TBS and Gojek, focusing on developing Indonesia's electric vehicle ecosystem. His leadership roles extend to being the chairman of the Indonesia Fintech Association and a commissioner of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX).

Following his appointment as CIO of Danantara, Sjahrir has resigned from his role as vice president director of TBS Energi Utama, IDX reported.

At Danantara, Sjahrir will collaborate with group CEO Rosan Roeslani, who also serves as the minister of investment and downstream industry, and chief operating officer Dony Oskaria, the deputy minister of state-owned enterprises. This leadership team will aim to steer Danantara towards achieving its mission of optimising state-owned enterprises and driving sustainable economic growth in Indonesia.

AC Ventures extends its congratulations to Sjahrir on this appointment. "As a key figure in Indonesia's investment landscape, [Sjahrir] has played a crucial role in driving innovation and economic growth," the VC firm wrote. "AC Ventures wishes [Sjahrir] all the best in this important role and is confident that his leadership will bring lasting impact."
