Singapore-based transport company, ComfortDelGro, has invested US$2 million in shared mobility platform, Drive lah as it looks to redefine urban mobility across the APAC region.

ComfortDelGro’s collaboration with Drive lah will focus on car connectivity and navigation technology. It will also supply vehicles to Drive lah’s platforms.

Founded in 2019, Drive lah helps car seekers find nearby vehicles to rent, while providing owners a way to earn. Since then, Drive lah has onboarded over 200,000 registered users, with over 2,000 cars on its platform. It has also recorded a tenfold growth since its first investors came on board in early 2020.

The collaboration will start in Q4 2023 in Sydney and Melbourne, with ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia progressively supplying up to 3,000 vehicles to the Drive mate platform, which is Drive lah's name in the region. This move aims to support the increase in demand for car-sharing services in Australia.

"As a lead investor and fleet partner, our collaboration with Drive mate will allow the two companies to shape urban mobility, particularly in Australia where we have a strong foothold operating buses, taxis and non-emergency patient transport,” said Nicholas Yap, chief executive officer of ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia in a statement.

He added that the partnership aims to create seamless experiences for car owners and seekers on the Drive mate platform.

"The future of mobility is interconnected. We're gearing up to lead the transformation towards a more connected and efficient transportation ecosystem in the APAC region,” said Dirk-Jan ter Horst, co-founder of Drive lah.

With its asset-light model and footprint across multiple APAC countries, the company hopes to make mobility solutions more sustainable in the region, Gaurav Singhal, co-founder of Drive lah, added.

Earlier in July 2023, ComfortDelGro signed a contract to operate rail services in Paris, marking its first foray into France’s rail operations market. The contract was for the South sector of Line 15 – a new automated line under the ambitious 200-km Grand Paris Express (GPE) greenfield metro programme in the Greater Paris region, France.
