In celebration of the South China Morning Post’s (SCMP) 120th anniversary, the media organisation and Hongkong Land have joined forces to launch a pop-up exhibition at Landmark Atrium, Central, to showcase its heritage and future relevance in shaping the international story of Hong Kong.
An extension of the I Read the SCMP marketing platform, the exhibition targets a wide group of social, cultural and business influencers. It aims to celebrate 120 years of Hong Kong's international story and the broad and deep relevance of the SCMP.
Done in collaboration with production agency Pamco and SCMP’s Morning Studio, the campaign gives new life to Hong Kong’s international story by getting the influential profiles of today to talk about SCMP’s rich heritage, forward momentum and its collective future.
This exhibition runs from 20 October to 15 November and showcases 18 archive prints from the newspaper’s 120-year history, along with six quotes from prominent individuals, providing insight into key moments in our city’s incredible journey. Exhibition visitors who take a photo in the “I Read the SCMP” photobooth will receive an exclusive subscription offer.
The influential profiles quoted in the exhibition include Douglas Young, co-founder & CEO of G.O.D; classical music and film music composer Elliot Leung; Shalini Mahtani, founder, The Zubin Foundation; Jeffie Lam, news editor, city desk, SCMP; Mia Nulimaimaiti, reporter, political economy, SCMP; Anson Chan, student, Island School.
In terms of the medium of promotion, there will be ads on SCMP.com, print and social media posts, along with 37 digital display advertising panels across Hongkong Land properties.
“The SCMP was founded in 1903. For the past 120 years and counting it has charted the city’s rising and global influence, the strength and determination of its community, its transformation and connections, and its vision for the future. We are proud to have been part of this journey, every step of the way,” said Catherine So, CEO of the SCMP. “I invite the public to visit the pop-up and join us in celebration of our rich heritage, momentum, and collective future.”
“What gives stories renewed relevance and impact is when people talk about them, and that’s what we’re doing with this exhibition,” said Kevin Huang, chief operating officer of the SCMP. “We’re getting people to talk about our inspiring story, our rich heritage, forward momentum and our bright collective future.”
Don't miss: SCMP honours readers and HKers' spirit with new anniversary campaign
Back in September, the SCMP unveiled a new initiative to bring to life the broad and deep relevance of the SCMP as part of its 120th anniversary celebration.
Also known as “Your SCMP”, the campaign aimed to reposition SCMP for a broad group of readers in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia, as well as advertisers, businesses and Hong Kong students who aspire to participate and thrive within the global landscape. Together with its extensive reach, SCMP aimed to actively engage audiences and encourage them to shape the Hong Kong story collectively.
