MAG guides Malaysians living overseas back home in heartwarming CNY film

Chinese New Year (CNY) is all about coming together with your family and loved ones. For some, that looks like hopping on a plane and flying across oceans.
In Malaysia Aviation Group's (MAG) new CNY film titled The Race Home, three groups of people - a young woman, a mother and her children, as well as an elderly couple, are seen racing home to Malaysia from London.
The film starts by introducing the main characters and them preparing for their trip back home. The young woman closes up the library that she works at, the elderly couple pack their home while the mother is seen purchasing toys at a store with her two young children. The young woman is then seen chasing down a taxi while the elderly couple make rounds at Heathrow Airport, trying to find their gate.
The race is anxiety inducing, with fears of getting lost at airports and missing flights. However, the characters are later approached by Malaysian Airlines staff who help them check in and get to their seats safely.

When the flight lands, the characters are then reunited with their loved ones at the airport - the elderly couple with their children, the mother and two children with her husband and the young woman with her friends.
The film ends with viewers following a Malaysian Airlines stewardess rushing back home to join her family for reunion dinner. A text which reads "Let the spirit of Malaysian hospitality guide you home this Chinese New Year" appears at the end of the film too.

The Race Home is a touching and emotional film, much unlike the airline carrier's CNY post last year. The airline drew mixed sentiments after posting an AI-generated CNY post to promote the airline's domestic and international flights. The post showed a family laughing together as they celebrate the new year. It said, "Embrace the joy of family reunions this Chinese New Year" with prices for flights included. However, netizens were quick to point out that the image looked to be created using AI.
One user said "using AI-generated images made their image look cheap" while another questioned if a photographer was hard to find. Meanwhile, some users showed support, commenting "wow nice AI image" and defended the company against users whose comments denote a negative tone.
The Race Home also comes after the airline unveiled its "Time for" campaign earlier this year. The campaign aims to inspire travellers to discover the excitement of exploration, immerse themselves in diverse cultures, and make every journey truly memorable. As part of the campaign, the airline will be launching initiatives across Melbourne, United Kingdom and more to position Malaysia on the global stage.
These efforts align with "Visit Malaysia 2026", showcasing the country's vibrant appeal to international audiences.
