Animal welfare has long been an issue in Hong Kong. To raise the awareness among the public, Lee Tung Avenue has collaborated with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) (SPCA) to launch an outdoor cat festival.
Running until 15 November, the event includes a giant inflatable cat that will be displayed at the central piazza of Lee Tung Avenue. The inflatable cat's shape and design were created to represent Hong Kong’s street cats. Other activities include a street cat hunt hosted by SPCA to give participants a taste of what it’s like to wander on the streets as a cat and learn about different aspects of animal awareness via informational display boards nearby.
During the event period, a cat-themed flea market will take place every Sunday as visitors can find fashionable products for themselves. Additionally, short videos of cats will be broadcast on the spot during the event.
Last but not least, Lee Tung Avenue has redesigned part of the public open space at the rooftop as a pet-friendly zone, offering pet excreta collection bins, pet latrines and water facilities.
