Siew Ting Foo, HP Singapore's ex chief marketing officer of Greater Asia, has moved into the position of global head of brand insights at HP. In a LinkedIn post she said the past week was bitter sweet as after two years with Greater Asia, she now moves on to a new role in HP and leaves "the Greater Asia marketing team in good hands". She continued by saying that while there was not a lot of fanfare to her send off, she received an "amazing" card from her team that spoke to her "objectives and purpose" in the role.

"[I wanted] to unleash the potential of the team and to really help them shine. I have coached many of them and helped them see their own potential and challenged them to see their own growth. In the process, I learnt to become a better leader, a better human-being. Keep shining Greater Asia marketing team," she said. Foo has spent just over five years at HP where she has helmed roles such as vice president and global head of marketing strategy and planning as well as the team's Asia Pacific regional CMO in Japan.

An established voice in the marketing industry, Foo was also recently nominated as the top 25 eCommerce leaders in MARKETING-INTERACTIVE's eCommerce Awards. She is a firm believer in building customer centric and data-driven marketing campaigns that are creative and people-led. A strong advocate of using purpose-led marketing and creativity to build a sustainable business for profit as well as for the communities she serves, Foo is focused on building HP as a global brand with local soul.

Don't miss: HP to layoff up to 6,000 staff globally in the next 3 years

Before HP, Foo was the global marketing director of the healthy ageing platform at Fonterra, a dairy product exporter. In the role, she was responsible for turning around the declining brand growth which she did in just a year in the role. Before that, Foo worked at Diageo for just over 10 years where she held roles such as marketing vice president of Southeast Asia, marketing director of China and more. Her expansive career also includes stints at Mars and Unilever.

Foo's promotion comes just months after HP announced that it would reduce its headcount. The IT firm said it plans to cut its global employee headcount by about 4,000 to 6,000 by the end of 2025.

The layoffs are part of its 2023 Future Ready Transformation plan announced alongside its Q4 financial performance recently. The plan aims to drive significant structural cost savings through digital transformation, portfolio optimisation and operational efficiency. HP estimates that these actions will result in annualised gross run rate savings of at least US$1.4 billion by the end of fiscal 2025.

At the same time, the company also estimates it will incur about US$1.0 billion in labour and non-labour costs related to restructuring and other charges, with approximately US$0.6 billion in fiscal 2023, and the rest split approximately equally between fiscal 2024 and 2025.

HP's spokesperson in Singapore told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that the workforce reduction is the toughest decision the company has had to make because it impacts colleagues the company cares deeply about. While the spokesperson declined to disclose any Singapore details, the spokesperson said: "We are committed to treating people with care and respect – including financial and career services support to help them find their next opportunity."

The spokesperson added that the new Future Ready strategy will enable HP to better serve its customers and drive long-term value creation by reducing its costs and reinvesting in key growth initiatives to position the business for the future.
