This Chinese New Year (CNY) saw brands slither into full swing. Coca-Cola released a jingle tackling the pressures of meeting relatives during the festive period, while the beloved game of snake of ladders was at the forefront of snake-tacular ang bao designs this year.

That said, there's no better way to celebrate the festive cheer with some fantastic films. From laughter to heartfelt moments, these CNY films in Malaysia kicked off the year with a hiss-terical good time.

1. CelcomDigi

CelcomDigi encouraged Malaysians to honour family traditions in new and innovative ways in its latest campaign film titled Threads of Legacy. The film takes viewers into the lives of a family deeply connected to the creation of a cultural pride symbol, the cheongsam.

The film aims to celebrate how the internet can bridge generational gap and enable different generations to learn and be better together. "By blending heritage with innovations and the power of connectivity, CelcomDigi believes that traditions will live on as each new generation bridges cultural gaps, discovers forward-thinking ways to honour the essence of our heritage and makes it their own," said the statement.

"Just like the Year of the Snake, which symbolises wisdom, intuition, and transformation, we are inspired by the snake's graceful adaptability to embrace transformation as the key to driving success," it added.

2. Malaysia Aviation Group

Chinese New Year is all about coming together with your family and loved ones. For some, that looks like hopping on a plane and flying across oceans. In Malaysia Aviation Group's (MAG) new CNY film titled The Race Home, three groups of people - a young woman, a mother and her children, as well as an elderly couple, are seen racing home to Malaysia from London.

The film starts by introducing the main characters and them preparing for their trip back home. The race is anxiety inducing, with fears of getting lost at airports and missing flights. When the flight lands, the characters are then reunited with their loved ones at the airport - the elderly couple with their children, the mother and two children with her husband and the young woman with her friends.

The film ends with viewers following a Malaysian Airlines stewardess rushing back home to join her family for reunion dinner. A text which reads "Let the spirit of Malaysian hospitality guide you home this Chinese New Year" appears at the end of the film too.

3. MR D.I.Y

Slithering into the Chinese New Year in fashion, Malaysian home improvement retailer MR D.I.Y. Group launched a humorous yet heartwarming Chinese New Year web film along with the debut of a dance-themed music video.

Titled "The Family Trial", the eight-minute-long film features Hong Kong star Benz Hui and follows a father and son caught in a comedic feud over their Chinese New Year plans. To further commemorate this year's celebrations, MR D.I.Y. has also launched their very first Chinese New Year dance-themed music video, “Ular-lar,” inviting Malaysians to get creative and join in the fun with a dance challenge on social media to win prizes while spreading the festive joY.

“MR D.I.Y is very much present in homes during this season, and we thought it would be fun to capture this spirit in a ‘Ular-lar’-themed programme, that brings together everything that people love about the season - visiting each other’s home, sharing good times with lots of food, and being entertained," said Alex Goh, head of marketing for MR D.I.Y. Group.

4. RHB Bank

RHB Bank is looking to redefine the true meaning of wealth in its latest inspirational film "Wealth". "Wealth" tells the true story of Tan Swee Ban, founder of Peace & Harmony Home a not-for-profit nursing centre in Penang that looks after the sick and neglected elderly. The film shows Tan attempting to juggle various aspects of his life, seemingly portraying him as "irresponsible". However, Tan's mother then dives deeper into her son's life, showing viewers how Tan has attempted to care for everyone around him while trying to keep his life afloat.

Abdul Sani Abdul Murad, chief marketing officer at RHB Group said, "We often associate a person’s legacy with the material wealth that they leave behind, but Mr. Tan’s remarkable story completely flips this notion. He demonstrated that true wealth is measured by one’s actions, which ultimately become their lasting legacy".

He added, "As Chinese New Year is a celebration that is closely tied to the concept of prosperity, his story feels especially meaningful. Mr. Tan’s selflessness serves as a timely reminder to value not just what we see, but what we feel in our hearts – because that is the kind of wealth that endures for a lifetime. To me, this is the essence of true progress".
