Telekom Malaysia sponsors Malaysia Cup, unveils new trophy

Telekom Malaysia (TM) and the Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) have announced its sponsorship for Malaysia Cup where TM will take on the role of title sponsor. The most coveted trophy of the event will now be known as ‘TM Piala Malaysia’ from this year until 2017.With the three-year deal, TM’s brand will be displayed alongside the Piala Malaysia’s logo. TM’s marketing rights will allow them to build a strong association with the Malaysia Cup trophy as well as the teams in the competition.TM has also sealed a commercial sponsorship agreement with the FMLLP, making TM the co-sponsor for the Malaysia Super League (MSL) for the year 2016 and 2017.The agreement also marks the renewal of TM’s continued support towards local football development. TM’s logo will be displayed on the National Team’s training jerseys as well as on its official stationeries and related marketing and communications materials.The collaboration is part of the TM’s approach sports marketing, sponsorship and development - ranging from grassroots level through National Football Development Programme (NFDP) and 'Mencari Ramli' at national level via‎ FAM, as well as on an international level via Manchester United.Through the company’s flagship initiative ‘Team Malaysia’, TM’s overall strategic sports campaign seeks to further champion national pride through sports and further ignite the the athletes’ pursuit for excellence and put Malaysia on the global sports map.Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, group chief executive officer, TM said, “As part of the sponsorship, we are able to bring the teams that are vying for the Cup closer to Malaysian football fans through on-ground activities, particularly our road shows nationwide. This way, we hope to re-ignite the interest of Malaysians towards local football and bring the fans together to cheer for their favorite team.”FMLLP was established to privatise the Malaysian football league system. It oversees five entities in Malaysian football under its jurisdiction, which include the Malaysia Super League, the Malaysia Premier League, the FA Cup, the TM Piala Malaysia and the Charity Shield.Stakeholders of the FMLLP include the FAM as the managing partner, media rights company MP & Silva as a special partner overseeing FAM’s global media and commercial rights, as well as the respective football clubs as partners.Kevin Ramalingam, chief executive officer of football Malaysia LLP, said “Everyone involved has worked very hard to ensure that TM receives good value for their sponsorship and we are all very happy that they have made this decision not only as a service to Malaysian football but based on the real value that Malaysian football presents. We are confident that we will make many more sponsorship announcements in the future, but this one with TM will always be special as they have come to the front of the queue and made this commitment first.”
