Peter Skalberg steps down as Y&R Indochina CEO

Y&R Indochina CEO Peter Skalberg has stepped down from the role. He first took on the role in January 2016 and was tasked with managing all Y&R operations across Indochina. while based in Ho Chi Minh City.At the time, he took over from Vincent Van Dessel who stepped down as CEO Y&R Vietnam. Y&R Indochina was launched early in 2014, as part of the network’s continued efforts to build the sub-region’s advertising industry.Skalberg has over two decades worth of experience in the APAC region. He started out in advertising at George Patterson Y&R in Australia, where he worked on CUB (Fosters Portfolio), Coles Supermarkets, Yellow Pages, the launch of CROWN CASINO and Knight Frank Real Estate business, his LinkedIn added.He then transferred to Bates Vietnam as client service director where he worked on Heineken, Ovaltine, J&B Scotch Whisky, American Standard, Shelltox, Mars confectionary products. Next, he took up tenure in Bates Singapore to take up regional and global responsibilities, working with clients such as Heineken, SAP, Audi, Fujitsu and Allied Domecq businesses. He was then appointed CEO of Bates/141 Singapore and regional director at Southeast Asia.Right before his current role at Y&R, Skalberg was the APAC regional business director at McCann Wordgroup where he managed brands such as Coca-Cola, Nestle and L’Oreal. He also had shared responsibility on the FERRERO, TATA Communications, Wyeth, Darlie and POPEYES business in Singapore. Marketing has reached out to Y&R Indochina for comment.Most recently, WPP decided to close its Y&R Yangon branch by the end of June 2018, a move which impacts 10 people. In a statement, Chris Foster, regional president, Y&R Asia, explained that the move was part of the network’s regional strategy. He added that as one of the network’s smallest branches, the Yangon office was set up in 2014 to primarily service some regional clients.The statement added that the agency is currently supporting the team in finding employment within WPP, and have put a few people in contact with other agencies.
