lululemon concludes media pitch for branding and digital remit for HK, Macau and SEA

Lululemon has appointed GroupM to handle the media buying and planning for the brand's digital and brand remit, following a competitive pitch earlier this year, MARKETING-INTERACTIVE understands.

The appointment will last for two years and covers Hong Kong, Macau, and Southeast Asia. It also extends GroupM's regional strategy mandate that was in place since last year. It is understood that GroupM was chosen as it has good grasp of local market nuances.

Don't miss: GroupM reportedly to be rebranded into WPP Media

The latest win comes after GroupM's parent company WPP reportedly sets to rebrand GroupM as WPP Media. This marks a significant shift in the company's branding strategy after two decades. The move aims to streamline WPP's offerings and align more closely with competitors such as Publicis Media and Omnicom Media Group, according to media reports.

The branding is reportedly part of WPP's broader efforts to simplify its structure and enhance operational efficiency. As part of this restructuring, WPP plans to consolidate individual agency investment teams, which may lead to layoffs within the group.

In an internal memo seen by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE previously, GroupM CEO Brian Lesser said "While you may have seen speculation about our brands in the news, know that you can hear about major business updates directly from me."

He added that "as part of this process, we've had to make difficult decisions as we work to improve our team structure and reduce overlap. This will affect some roles."

"Impact will vary by market, with conversations beginning in certain markets this week," said Lesser. "Our goal is to complete the process globally by mid-year."

The changes come as clients look to the agency to lead them into an AI-driven media future. Just last month, the advertising and media services conglomerate acquired InfoSum. InfoSum joins WPP's media investment group to power the creation of a new generation of AI-enhanced marketing solutions for client.

Recently, WPP also announced the acquisition of InfoSum, a global data collaboration platform. InfoSum will join GroupM, WPP’s media investment group, to power the creation of a new generation of AI-enhanced marketing solutions for clients, delivered through the industry’s most powerful and secure data infrastructure.
